Missouri man dead after a snowmobile accident

ELM RIVER TOWNSHIP -- A Missouri man is dead after a snowmobile accident in Houghton County.

The Michigan State Police were called to the scene of the crash Monday night at 10:35 p.m.  It happened on Trail #3 near the South Elm River Town Road in Elm River Township.

A group of people from Missouri and Illinois were snowmobiling on the trail together.  A member of the group, 24-year-old Zachary Fish of Ellisville, Missouri, went off the trail.  He hit a tree and was thrown from the machine, receiving fatal injuries.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Assisting Michigan State Police were personnel from Twin Lakes Fire Department, Adams Township First Responders and Rescue, Mercy Ambulance, Superior Tow Service, and the Houghton County Medical Examiner.
