Not well
MARQUETTE -- Cold weather is nothing new, but few people are aware of the effects the cold can have on their new technology, particularly cell phones.
Employees at Team Wireless Verizon dealer in Marquette warn that cold weather and cell phones do not mix. The cold can cause condensation to build up in the device, causing problems.
Older phones can contain a nickel-based battery which drain quickly in the cold; however, newer phones contain lithium batteries which handle lower temperatures much better.
However, Team Wireless employees say avoiding the cold is best.
"Unfortunately, once it's exposed to the cold weather, you do have to suffer the consequences--condensation and battery draining--the two most prevalent consequences of leaving it out in the cold," said Team Wireless employee, Justin Burford.
Burford says the best idea is to upgrade your phone if it is an older model.
