The three issues on the ballot were the jail operating proposal, bond proposal, and MSU tax rate increase
SCHOOLCRAFT COUNTY -- Schoolcraft County voters are casting their ballot today on the new jail proposal and operations budget. Another issue on the ballot was the five year tax rate increase for the MSU extension service.
The jail bond proposal is asking residents to approve a millage rate of 1.21 mills per year for 20 years. The millage would generate $5.9 million to finance the new jail complex.
One resident voting today says he wants to set a good example for his kids.
“Well, it's important to take initiative and make decisions for the future,” explains voter Jake Rivard. “You know, young kids growing up, it's going to affect their education, sports, and overall social development.”
The polls close at 8 p.m.
