MARQUETTE -- Children in Marquette got their chance to try out mushing Saturday afternoon at the Marquette Commons.

The Marquette Kiwanis Club hosted the 12th Annual Kiddie Mutt Races.  Family dogs were hitched up to the donated sleds, and kids were able to race down a 100-yard chute.

The free event is a great way to give kids a taste of mushing.

"It provides another event for people from out of town that are visitors or families during the whole sled dog weekend.  We have a lot of visitors.  This is one of the biggest impacts on our community here," said Kiwanis member, Jake Guter.

This year's race looked to be a record-setting event.  As of noon, more than 100 kids had signed up.
