All three suspects were eventually caught

PONTIAC (AP) -- The Oakland County sheriff's department says while a deputy was pursuing a man who fled on foot from a traffic stop, one of two female passengers who'd been hiding in the car made a getaway in the vehicle.

The department says it was able to track down the women, who led them to where they were supposed to pick up the man.  The three were linked to the theft of more than $1,000 in items from a Waterford Township store and were arrested.

The sheriff's department says a sergeant saw a station wagon make a traffic violation in Pontiac about 2:15 a.m. Saturday and tried to pull it over.  The man failed to stop and tried to elude the patrol car.  The department says the driver eventually stopped and fled on foot.
