Dearborn is home to about 300,000 Arabs

DEARBORN (AP) -- Arab Americans in Michigan are celebrating the regime change in Egypt and rallying in support of pro-democracy demonstrators in other Middle Eastern nations.

The American Egyptian Muslim Society is holding what it says is a "day of celebration, support and reflection in honor of Egypt" and its people Sunday at a Lebanese-American social hall in Dearborn.

The Detroit suburb is the center of southeastern Michigan's large Arab-American community.  About 300,000 people in the area trace their roots to the Arab world.

On Sunday afternoon, Arab community leaders plan a demonstration and rally at Dearborn city hall to back pro-democracy activists in Bahrain, Libya, and Yemen.
