Union members have been picketing for days
MADISON, WIS. (AP) -- One of the 14 Democratic Wisconsin state senators who left the state rather than vote on a bill taking away collective bargaining rights says the 14 have no plans to return this weekend.
Sen. Jon Erpenbach says the senators remain out of state and plan to meet later Saturday.
Erpenbach says Democrats want Republican Gov. Scott Walker to seriously consider a deal under which public employees would agree to pay more for benefits as long as their rights to collectively bargain are not removed.
Walker has said he would not accept that deal.
Massive protests are planned at the Capitol on Saturday. A Walker spokesman says the governor is spending time with his family, but he didn't say where.
