Nineteen teams participated this year
GWINN -- And while the UP 200 sled dog teams were getting ready to start, the Midnight Run teams were well on their way.
Nineteen sled dog teams dashed out of the chutes at Gwinn High School at 6 p.m. Friday for the Midnight Run. The mushers couldn't wait to begin their 90-mile race, which follows the original UP 200 trail.
"I am so nervous and so excited right now. This is my first 91 miler; up until this point, I've only done a 20 miler and a 60 miler. I'm more of a sprint runner, so this will be longer for me" says Ailena Baum, one of the Midnight Run mushers.
From Gwinn it's on to Deerton for a layover and then to Munising Saturday morning for the Midnight Run finish.
