The trial of the 64-year-old Manistique man accused of trying to extort city officials has gone to the jury.
Peter Markham is charged with seven counts of extortion. The arguments stem from a dispute Markham had with city officials regarding a base fee on his water bill.
During closing arguments on Thursday, the defense council said they felt the trial was orchestrated. The prosecution, however, said that Markham's threats of arson, murder, and suicide should be regarded as more than threats.
The jury received instructions from the judge before deliberation.
