Hope you got outside to enjoy the warm sunshine yesterday because that was probably your last shot before spring rolls around.
Clouds and fog have settled over the U.P. during the overnight hours and look to stick around all through the day. Some patchy drizzle is possible as well, though mainly over eastern counties.
But even with today's highs remaining well above average, that will all be changing overnight. A potent storm will swing north of the U.P., whipping up our winds, which will then bring much more winter-like air into the region. Wind gusts through the afternoon on Friday could reach as high as 50 mph along Lake Superior, with brief bursts even higher than that. Temperatures will also fall all through tonight and into tomorrow afternoon.
This is both good and bad; on the bad side, any wet roads could freeze quickly as temperatures drop tonight and tomorrow morning. However, for the UP 200, race-time temperatures tomorrow evening will already be dipping near 20 and possibly down into the teens, so the trails will get a chance to firm up again.
Snowfall is another part of winter we'll see returning over the course of tomorrow. West-northwestly wind snow belts will see the best chance for accumulating snow later in the afternoon and into Friday night. The next best chance for snow after that comes on Sunday, but that situation is still evolving.
