ONTONAGON -- There were several arrests in Ontonagon County on Tuesday.
First, the Ontonagon County Sheriff's Department arrested two people on animal cruelty charges. A 63-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were arrested on warrants for cruelty to ten or more animals. They are free on bond and set to appear in Ontonagon County District Court on March 5.
We spoke with the Ontonagon County Animal Protection about this situation. They confirmed that the animals are now in protective custody at an undisclosed location. The animals rescued were several Chihuahuas, a rabbit, and a cat. They declined to give more information about the case so it does not interfere with the investigation.
In a separate incident, deputies took a 19-year-old Rossville, Illinois man into custody on a warrant. The warrant was issued for three counts of breaking and entering of a building with intent and one count of receiving and concealing stolen property.
He remains jailed on a $100,000 bond.
A message has been left with the Ontonagon County Sheriff's Department requesting further information about both of these incidents.
