7 to 20 in prison
CRYSTAL FALLS -- UPDATE 4:15 p.m.
An Iron River man charged with first degree home invasion is going to prison.
On Tuesday, 35-year-old Arne Maki was sentenced to serve between 7 and 20 years in a state prison in Iron County Trial Court.
On August 7, Maki went to the home of his ex-girlfriend, Rhonda Nichols, with a 30-caliber rifle and held up three people at gunpoint for over an hour.
Maki originally faced 16 felonies including attempted murder and unlawful imprisonment, but as part of the plea deal, he was only charged with first degree home invasion.
“This is not some minor incident where it was just, you know, some argument between a couple,” said Nichols, who is one of the victims and Maki’s ex-girlfriend. “The man entered into somebody's home and held five people hostage.”
“I take full responsibility for my actions,” said Maki. “I apologize. I'm sorry, and when I got to prison, I'm going to get help.”
Maki will receive 182 days credit for time already served in jail.
