ESCANABA -- The Community Action Agency in Escanaba held a lunch fund-raiser Friday to help raise money for Delta County families in need of heat assistance.
They sold grilled bratwurst and brownies from a corner stand on Ludington Street.
Over 800 people placed orders and over 1,200 brats were sold, and Friday's two-hour event brought in around $3,000.
Organizers said that the figure was so high because a lot of people added extra donations.
"As we all know, state and federal resources are becoming very scarce," said Cathy Pearson of the Community Action Agency. "What our money does is help people that may fall through the cracks and need help with their propane delivery, and that's why we do this event in the winter. We're trying to remind people that it's cold."
The Community Action Agency's Walk for Warmth is scheduled for February 26.
Organizers expect to raise $30,000 during the event.
