He says the party is opposed to any protests
MARQUETTE -- Marquette County Republican Chairman Dan Adamini says he's glad that President Obama is visiting the Upper Peninsula on Thursday because the visit will showcase Marquette.
Obama is planning to use Marquette and NMU as a model for his broadband Internet initiative. Adamini hopes the president will give his support to the Kennecott Mine now under construction and also help create more jobs in Marquette.
Adamini says the local GOP will not tolerate any members using the presidential visit as an opportunity for negative protesting.
"We want people much better behaved than our opponents were when President Bush was here," says Adamini. "There was some pretty nasty behavior, and we've put the word out that we're not going to tolerate that. If we see it, we will turn people in ourselves. We don't want anything to do with that."
President George W. Bush visited Marquette in 2004.
Adamini says the local Republican Party has sent out emails to their constituents on how to respectfully express their opinions.
