This is the 23rd year for the event

NEGAUNEE -- It may be cold and dreary outside, but there was plenty of sun at Lakeview Elementary's annual Friendship Festival Friday afternoon in Negaunee.

This is the 23rd year for the event, and this year's theme was "Fun in the Sun."  Kids dressed up in their summer clothes for a day at the carnival.  All of the traditional carnival games could be found including ring toss, basketball, a fish pond, and mini-golf.  Organizers say it's a great tradition that's fun for the students.

"There's a lot of academics going on throughout the year and throughout everyday, and it's just kind of a fun break for everyone.  They get to spend 30 minutes down here and just have some fun," explains volunteer coordinator Diane Faust.

And everyone was a winner at today's carnival as prizes were given away at each booth.
