MARQUETTE -- Update:  3 p.m. EST:

NMU Public Safety Director Mike Bath explains the university's decision to reopen in the following statement:

"Once we heard that there were other threats around the country, and through coordination with other law enforecements and the FBI, it was determined that it was not necessarily a local threat," says Bath.

The "person of interest" that authorities had been looking at Wednesday in the investigation of the threat to NMU has been released.

That word came from NMU President Les Wong and NMU Public Safety Director Mike Bath Thursday afternoon.  The person has not been identified.

Wong further said that the university currently has no leads in the case.  The FBI, the ATF, the Marquette County Sheriff's Department, and Marquette City Police are all involved..

Wong said the university will forward any information it gets--including from the social media--to the FBI as soon as it's received.

NMU also increased its police presence on the ground at NMU Thursday in response to Wednesday's crisis.
