WASHINGTON, DC -- Twenty fire departments in Michigan have $1.6 million in federal grants coming their way.
The cash comes through the Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
In the Upper Peninsula, three fire departments will be receiving grant money. The village of L'Anse has been awarded $57,475, Bay Mills Township Volunteer Fire Department will pick up $4,860, and Toivola Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded $11,833.
The money will be used to help with needs in the areas of equipment, training, and staffing.
The grants were announced this week by U.S. Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow.
