LANSING (AP) -- State officials are offering grants to private groups for projects designed to improve deer habitat in the Upper Peninsula.

The Department of Natural Resources and Environment says $50,000 is available for the program this year.

The grants will be worth $2,000 to $10,000 each.

Eligible projects could be located on private or commercial forest land.  Officials say those providing access for foot traffic will get top priority.

Hunting clubs and conservation groups can get help from state wildlife biologists in developing their proposals.
