LANSING (AP) -- Gov. Rick Snyder is making good on a campaign pledge to give voters an easy-to-understand way to learn how their tax dollars are being spent.
On Monday, he unveiled the new "Citizens Guide to Michigan's Financial Health" report at a summit on the state's fiscal health.
The Republican governor also unveiled tools that local governments can use to produce similar guides on their spending. Snyder says he's trying to make government more transparent. The new 21-page guide is intended to help taxpayers better understand where their money goes, what it supports, and what bills are mounting for the future. There's also a Website.
Snyder hopes school districts will follow the state's example.
The group Business Leaders for Michigan sponsored the summit at the Radisson hotel in downtown Lansing.
