Still air, light snow, and relatively warm temperatures made for a beautiful afternoon for a hockey game.

NORWAY -- It was a great turn out for pond hockey Saturday.

About 400 people came to support the festivities at Hanbury Lake in Norway.

A group of local players known as the Lofholm Lumberjacks organized the first ever tournament, which they plan to make an annual event.

The one day tournament had more than ten teams from across the U.P. signed up.

And extra funds will be used to support local sports.

"The funds, there probably isn't going to be a lot of extra you know our first year event here, but we were thinking of you know, if we do ever get somewhere to donate back into the baseball fields in the community or ice rinks wherever we can you know, but we do want to set a little aside for making it a bigger event next year," says organizer Ed Theisen.

Organizers believe expanding the event will be easy after such a great turn out its first year.

They hope to contribute more funds to local sports in the years ahead.
