HOUGHTON -- A parole violation hearing is scheduled for next month for a Hancock man who was previously connected to a fatal fire.
Two juries were not able to reach a verdict to either convict or acquit Ronald Kemppainen of murder and arson charges.
The 2009 fire in a Hancock apartment building claimed the lives of four people.
After the second hung jury, the Houghton County prosecutor asked the judge to drop all charges without prejudice. However, Kemppainen was taken into custody for an alleged parole violation in connection to his conviction of second degree home invasion.
He is currently in the Marquette Branch Prison, awaiting his parole violation hearing on February 14. At that time it will be decided if Kemppainen will be allowed to continue his parole or be sent back to prison.
