ESCANABA -- Escanaba Middle School is lending a helping hand to students who are needing a little extra help in math, reading, social studies, and other core classes.

It's called the Student Intervention Team, and students can meet for a morning or after-school session with tutors.  It's a way for Title One Teaching Assistants to provide extra support instruction to ensure that all students are performing at their appropriate grade level and meeting state content expectations.

Sixth grader Parker Lamarch said that he's already seen an improvement in test results.

"If you have homework, you can just come down here after school and just grab a seat, and if you need help, you can just ask them and then they'll help you," said Lamarch.

Lamarch said that his favorite part of the tutoring was being able to get his homework done.

About 20 students attend the two sessions at the middle school every day.
