Now is the time to wax skis
MARQUETTE -- With the Noquemanon ski marathon just two days away, it's time for skiers to get in their final practices and make sure their gear is ready.
One crucial part of preparation is making sure skis are properly waxed. Down Wind Sports in Marquette has been busy this week, averaging 30 to 40 waxes per day. Each set of skis gets four to five layers of wax, and there are a lot of variables used to determine the type that should be used.
"Taking into account conditions, such as how clean the snow is, if it's been groomed a lot, if it's very humid or very dry snow, maybe snow that was transported onto the course. All of those things are taken into account," explains Down Wind Sports co-owner Jeff Stasser.
Down Wind says they'll still accept skis through Friday morning to wax for the race.
