Another round of light snows across Upper Michigan to start the day may seem to signal colder air moving in, but that's not the case.
Above average temperatures yesterday and overnight last night will stick around for the day today, despite a weak cold front moving on through. The only difference will be the snow showers, which will linger mainly north and the additional clouds over southern counties. Any snow accumulations, even north, will be very light.
Later this week is what we're keep a close eye on, though. A rather potent "shortwave" trough will spin across the Upper Midwest, bringing an appreciable amount of snow and some changes to our weather. Friday evening looks like the timeframe that most of the snow will occur--exact amounts are a little hazy, but everyone has a shot for at least three inches or so with locally higher totals. Colder air will filter in through the rest of the weekend, bringing a chilly close to January.
