FLORENCE COUNTY -- A Florence County woman has been charged with a felony for falsely claiming she was being abducted.

According to the Florence County Sheriff's Department, the 35-year-old woman was sending text and voice messages to a friend in the city of Marinette.

The woman said she was in the back seat of a car and was being abducted by a former boyfriend and his father.

Police became suspicious and went to her mother's home where they found her, and she admitted the calls were a hoax.

The case has been referred to the District Attorney for formal charges.
