Alger County authorities believe excessive speed was a factor in the crash

BURT TWP. -- It happened about six miles west of Grand Marais on Trail #8 in Burt Township.

Fifty-two-year-old Terry Maliskey of downstate Warren was traveling eastbound towards Grand Marais around 10 p.m. Friday night when he apparently lost control of his snowmobile and left the trail on the right hand side.

He traveled for an additional 140 feet before striking trees.

Excessive speed is believed to be a factor in the accident.
