CHASSELL -- In Scandinavian countries, Kick-sleds are a fun and practical way to get around in the winter. Now, one Chassell manufacturer is hoping to make them popular in the U.P., too.
Ed Sauvola made his first Kick-sled a few years ago as a present for his daughter. Back then he had no idea it would turn into a profitable side business.
The Kick-sled became a hit when he showed it off at Heikinpaiva, and he's since sold more than 200 to people all over the country.
Sauvola's sleds come with runners for deep snow and are 100 percent made in America.
"I have fun with it. My kids enjoy it; we ride on the hill by our house. It's also useful for ice fisherman--they can have their gear and sit on it while they're fishing," said Sauvola.
Sauvola's sleds sell for $220 at his store in Chassell or $250 on line. He also plans to set up shop at this year's Heikinpaiva.
