MARQUETTE COUNTY -- It's the beginning of a new year, but the 2010 United Way Campaign continues on. The goal is $450,000, and about 80 percent of that goal has been reached so far.
Member agencies are in need of funding support more than ever. However, the 2010-11 campaign is a smaller goal than in year's past because of the tough economy.
"What we're finding is that when times get tough, some people get scared and shut down and feel like they can't donate. Then there are others that really step forward and say, 'You know what, I have a job, I can help out a neighbor. I can give up the price of a Red Bull a day just to help somebody," said United Way Campaign Coordinator Sue Minckler.
Almost 15 percent of Marquette Counties were aided by United Way agencies last year.
