Poor road conditions could be what contributed to a crash Saturday morning that killed two and injured several others
MARQUETTE -- It happened around 11:30 Saturday morning about a mile south of Marquette Mountain Ski Hill.
According to the Marquette County Sheriff's Office, a 1999 Dodge Caravan with three occupants was travelling south on M-553 near the Glasses Curve area when it began to lose control and crossed the centerline, striking a guardrail, and then a northbound 2005 Chrysler Pacifica.
The Caravan sustained major damage to the passenger side of the vehicle, and all of the occupants had to be extricated.
The van's passengers, a 49-year-old woman and a 26-year-old woman, both of Norway, were transported to MGH, where they were pronounced dead.
The 50-year-old male driver of the Caravan from Norway, and the 41-year-old female driver of the Pacifica from Gwinn, were also transported to MGH, where they are being treated for unknown injuries.
M-553 had to be closed for about 2 1/2 hours, and traffic was rerouted.
The road was snow-covered at the time of the crash.
Alcohol was not a factor.
