ESCANABA -- The struggle of Alzheimer's disease can be equally challenging for the caregivers. But at Perspectives Adult Care Center in Escanaba, caregivers are getting support.
The adult care center holds a monthly support group meeting on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. where families can receive respite care.
Many of the people who attend have spouses or family members with Alzheimer's or dementia. The day-in, day-out attention and care these people provide can eventually take a physical and emotional toll on them.
"A lot of people feel that they have to do it all by themselves, and we're here to let them know that there are support services out there; and hearing what one family member may be going through compared with another family member," said Perspectives Director, Randy Daigneault.
The care center's mission is to provide active and safe social activities for adults with dementia.
