REPUBLIC -- It's a recipe that they've kept the same for 60 years, and it's still so popular, 800 pasties were ordered for St. Augustine's Pasty Sale.

Community members gathered at the church in Republic at 6 a.m. Saturday morning to finish making the pasties.

They've made as many as 1,500 pasties at one time in the past.  In order to make that many pasties at one time, they've got a tried and true system.

They started Wednesday and complete part of the process each day, ending with a long session to get the pasties in and out of the oven on Saturday.

"Everything is hand done, every potato here is chipped by hand.  I mean we go through sometimes 650-700 pounds of potatoes.  It's just passed down through ages," said food manager, Tammy Mattson.

The sale is held to raise money for St. Augustine Church.
