MARQUETTE -- Members of Bell Hospital's "Strength from Within" program got the chance to hit the ice with some Olympic athletes.

The event was called "Skate with the Olympians" and involved middle school students with Olympians Anthony Lobello and bronze medalist Kimberly Derrick at the Berry Event Center.

The "Strength from Within" program consists of 47 students from the NICE, Ishpeming, and Negaunee school districts.

It's a year-long program that provides guidelines for diet and exercise with one of the students winning a one year scholarship to NMU.

Organizers hope the athletes' stories will motivate the students.

"Our Olympians have a solid message based upon motivation and success and failure because, like everything we do, you know, we're not always going to be successful," said Bell Wellness Manager, Jason Drew.

Although Bell works closely with the school districts, the program is funded completely by Bell Hospital.
