NEGAUNEE -- It was opening night for Lucy Hill Naturbahn luge in Negaunee Wednesday night, and some young athletes could hardly wait.
This marks the 21st season at the hill.
The staff has been busy icing the 800 meter course with 400 meters done so far.
Organizers of the luge program say the sport is multi-generational with riders as young as three and even one in their 60s.
Luge riders use their hands and feet to steer their sleds down the icy track, and for a small fee, the program provides equipment and coaching.
"We start you at the very bottom of the hill and you slowly work your way up as you show your competency, so we're never sending anyone down from the top and wishing them good luck," said luge coach, Tammy Wills.
For those interested in luge, the hill holds a Friday family night where kids 18 and younger can try out the track for free from 6 to 9 p.m.
