Music, parties, and drinking are all a big part of bringing in the New Year
MARQUETTE COUNTY -- But when alcohol and driving mix, the outcome is never good.
Friday night in Marquette County, there were four arrests for drinking and driving. And there is a fifth incident that is still under investigation that will likely result in an arrest for drinking and driving.
Michigan State Police say this is not an uncommon amount of arrests to be made in one night on New Year's Eve.
"Our fatality rate, accident rate is dropping; however, alcohol-related crashes still remain to be more dangerous than non alcohol-related crashes, so we're certainly focusing on making sure we try to identify those drivers that have been drinking and get them off the road," says Sgt. Kevin Dowling.
Officers also say they would, of course, like to see the number of drinking and driving incidents decrease.
