Cheap family fun

ESCANABA -- The Retro Station roller skating rink had a big turnout at its grand opening.

The rink in Escanaba opened Monday afternoon offering roller skating and in-line skating with indoor comfort.

Skating is an inexpensive activity, and it's a lot of fun, all year-round.

The Retro Station provides skate rentals, so all you have to do is show up, and don't forget that a lap around the rink burns off those Christmas calories, too.

Most importantly, the roller rink is a chance for kids and parents and families to spend quality time together.

"We're having a great time," said Manager Chrissy Hayward.  "It's wonderful.  It's good for families.  You get out and away from the video games, get away from the TV and have something to do.  Have some family time together, because people just don't do that anymore."

It's only four dollars for admission and one dollar to rent skates.

The Retro Station is open from 1 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m. each day this week.  They'll also be hosting an all night skate for New Year's Eve.
