Weather complications are having a trickle down effect

MARQUETTE -- The last few days have been a total nightmare for holiday travelers.  Snow storms out East caused some 2,000 flights to be cancelled Monday, leaving air travelers stranded.

"It's highly unusual to have all of the Eastern seaboard airports such as the Washingtons, the New Yorks, the Boston Airports as severely impacted as they are.  It'll just take time to dig out," says Keith Kaspari of Sawyer International Airport.

But what about in our neck of the woods.  Are U.P. travelers being affected?

Holiday Travel agent Laura Nelson says yes.

"They're extremely frustrated.  We're getting a lot of calls from clients who have booked online and can't get through to the airline," says Nelson.

Delta has cancelled over 800 flights through Atlanta, which has put pressure on hubs such as Minneapolis and Detroit, both of which have service to Marquette.

And those looking to be re-accommodated on American Airlines are also out of luck.  The airline has been booked solid through January 2.

"We have three daily flights to Chicago a day, and those flights are full all this week," Kaspari says.

But things are pretty quiet at Sawyer International Airport because all of the problems affecting travelers on the East coast aren't affecting travelers leaving Marquette.  However, once travelers leave Marquette, they may run into some problems if they're heading east.

All of Sawyer's flights have taken off on time, and the airport is fully operating.
