MARQUETTE -- In a newly painted yellow house on the corner of Third and Michigan Streets in Marquette, you'll find the 'beeracracy’ of the Blackrocks Brewery.
What is a beeracracy you may ask? According to owners Andy Langlois and David Manson, it's a chance for patrons to share their opinions about the beer brewed and served at Blackrocks.
"We're really trying to produce stuff that the community's going to be proud of, so if people feel like there's something that can be altered or recommend to adjust some of our recipes, we're open to that," laughs Manson.
On its four taps right now, the Blackrocks Brewery has a wheat beer, a pale ale, a ‘wild card,’ and a black ale. Each pint costs $3.50.
The owners say they'll always have their three most popular beers on tap, but the fourth one will be a surprise for customers.
The pair started experimenting with brewing about four years ago. What started out as an interesting hobby, quickly became an idea for a community business.
"Dave and I are just a couple of guys who are pretty passionate about bringing something new to the area, something that we're passionate about, and we just want to share it with you," Langlois adds.
The men brew only one barrel of beer at a time, but with their microbrewer's license, there is the potential to grow into a bigger operation that allows them to distribute their product. With four fermentors, that means about 31 gallons a day.
The brewery opened for business last week. Right now, their hours of operation are scheduled to be from noon to midnight, Tuesday through Sunday.
