ISHPEMING -- In the next few weeks, don't be surprised if you see an increase in your monthly Upper Peninsula Power Company, UPPCO, rates.

In June, the company filed a request with the Michigan Public Service Commission to increase its overall electric base rates by 16.8 percent.

If approved, a residential customer could see a monthly increase of $16.60.

UPPCO says the increase is a result of reduced sales and hydroelectric maintenance.

UPPCO expect to hear from the Michigan Public Service Commission within the next few weeks.
