Former tribal police chief sentenced for fraud

$231,000 in restitution

MARQUETTE -- The former Sault Tribal Police Chief was sentenced in Federal Court for defrauding the federal government.

In a plea agreement, 52-year-old Fredrick James Paquin was sentenced to one year and one day in prison and ordered to pay over $231,000 in restitution to the federal government.

Paquin was charged in January of defrauding the government out of grant funds intended for Tribal Law Enforcement between 2002 and 2008.
