HOUGHTON -- On Wednesday, a Hartford, Wisconsin man was sentenced in federal court for possessing child pornography.

Eric Dexter Welch, 40, was sentenced to 14 years and probation for life.

Welch was convicted in October of possessing child pornography on a laptop while residing in Houghton.

Welch's sentence was elevated as he is a registered sex offender and has previously been convicted of having sex with a 13-year-old girl.

Welch was credited with 270 days served.
