MARQUETTE -- Recently, the Marquette City Police has been taking a tougher approach to collecting parking fines in the form of booting cars.
The program was implemented in May of this year and so far has collected over $8,000 in unpaid parking tickets with boots on over 50 cars.
Cars will be booted when parking enforcement officers cite a vehicle, and an automated message alerts them if the car has a considerable amount of fines.
City police say the program has been very successful so far.
"Usually within 15 to 20 minutes or depending on the time frame, half an hour or so, we're contacted by the vehicle owner. They come down immediately and pay the fines and cost, and we go down and remove the boot," said Captain Blake Riebolt of the Marquette City Police.
Marquette City Police say they expect an increase in booting activity due to the winter night parking ban.
