The holiday season is known for being a time to bake, but some area chefs took their creations to a whole new level Saturday afternoon
MARQUETTE -- The Peter White Public Library held its first-ever Winter Wonderland Cake Contest.
Contestants had to create a cake with a winter wonderland theme, and all of the decorations had to be edible.
Judging was based on neatness, originality, creativity, skill, difficulty, and interpretation of the theme.
Prizes were awarded in three categories: youth, amateur adult, and professional adult.
And for most of the bakers, it took plenty of time to get their cake ready.
"I started on Monday with trying to figure out the idea for the cake, and I started around Tuesday building the cabin and the figures, and I did the cake last night and finished assembling it this morning," says Anna Abdo, who took first place in the amateur adult category.
Cash prizes were awarded to the first and second place winners in each category, but everyone received a gift certificate to the library's cafe for participating.
