CARLSHEND -- With the recent snowy weather throughout the U.P., one area hit especially hard is affecting not only residents, but businesses as well.

The Carlshend area along US-41 South was hit with up to 17 inches of snow.

As residents dug themselves out, the businesses along the highway were also hit with slow sales.

Owners of the A & M Cafe say that during the snowy weather, most of their usual clientele are out shoveling and plowing, leaving business slow.

"Once the snow storms are over with, then usually either that night or the next day, that's when people start coming out again," said A & M Cafe co-owner Donna Oliver.

Although business is slow, owners of several businesses along the highway say they still get people looking for the basics like gas and coffee.
