As Christmas approaches, students attending Westwood High School in Ishpeming Township aren't just thinking about what they'll be receiving for Christmas, they're also thinking about what they can give to the less fortunate
NEGAUNEE -- That's the reason why they organized a faculty-student hockey game Saturday afternoon.
The event was called the Hockey Holiday Benefit, and it was held at the Negaunee Ice Arena.
Spectators were asked to donate either three dollars, toys, or food items for the Ishpeming Salvation Aarmy.
Even though this was the first year for the benefit, organizers were pleased with the turnout and hope to hold the event next year.
"The staff has been wonderful, the kids have been great," says W.H.S. athletic director Renee Michaud. "We've really been talking about...they practiced together last night, split the ice--the kids on one side and, of course, the staff on the other--and so they've already been together, and the response has been, it's just been wonderful."
Twelve faculty members and 15 students suited up for the big game.
