HOUGHTON -- It's been nearly a year since the devastating earthquake in Haiti, which left many people wondering where and when another might occur.
Michigan Tech Professor Wayne Pennington explained the area's seismological history and how the quake was predicted, at least by scientists.
Haiti's Enriquillo Fault had experienced several similarly large quakes between 1751 and 1770, suggesting what could happen in the coming years and decades.
Pennington said a key difference is that scientists and community planners are working on better communication.
Pennington is planning another public presentation on the science behind Haiti's quake which will take place around the one year anniversary.
