With the recent dusting of snow, it's beginning to feel a lot like the holiday season in the U.P.
MARQUETTE -- Over 100 dancers from Marquette County will take to the stage Saturday to bring The Nutcracker to life.
"It's not like the old classical, kind of like yawner kind of thing...it's totally like we have modern; we have a lot of people are on pointe,” said performer Grace Feliz. “I mean there's a lot of things that are in it that aren't; it's not just ballet."
And it isn't your typical performance. The show will include everything from ballet, jazz, and belly dancing as well as some acting. The performers range from preschool age all the way to seniors.
"It really reaches a lot of sectors of the entire community that normally one show or one event can't reach out to," said Nikke Nason of the Marquette Arts and Culture Center.
And you won't find any lazy performers in this group.
"The cast gets along insanely well, and everyone is dedicated,” said performer Mike Shimon. “And even if you ran it five, six times, you ask them normally when they're exhausted, do you want to do this again? They're like, yeah, let’s go again."
In order to make the performance more understandable for young children in the audience, a narration of the story will also be included.
The Nutcracker will be performed Saturday, December 4, at the Kaufman Auditorium in Marquette at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.
