LANSING (AP) -- State tourism officials say they'll cancel the Pure Michigan winter advertising campaign set to begin in January if lawmakers don't come up with the funding needed to save the program during this week's lame duck session.
State tourism officials said Tuesday they'll be forced to cancel the campaign Friday without the funds. Gov. Jennifer Granholm and Gov.-elect Rick Snyder both support spending more on the tourism campaign.
About $5 million has been set aside this budget year for Pure Michigan, far less than the $30 million spent two years ago on year-round advertising.
Michigan lawmakers have generally supported Pure Michigan but haven't agreed on a way to boost funding because of state government's budget problems.
