Organizers have decided not to pursue a recall of five Norway School Board members
NORWAY -- Organizers are no longer trying to recall five school board members from Norway-Vulcan Area Schools.
A petition was filed in October to remove Mark Demers, Tom McCarthy, Mark Skog, Tami Miller, and Candy Brew for being neglectful in their duties. The reason for the recall was the school board's handling of Norway Principal and Football Coach Brad Grayvold's domestic violence charge.
Vulcan resident Ron Melelli, who filed the initial petition, has called off the recall. His group fell short of the 509 signatures needed to place the issue on the February ballot and considered trying to get it on the May ballot instead. However, a legal problem with the language of the petition would have required the process be started all over again.
In a phone interview, Melelli said the group is disappointed the recall won't happen, but they are focusing their attention on May's school board election instead.
Three of the five Norway school board members that were listed on the recall petition will be up for re-election.
