Volunteers help feed more than 1,000 seniors
LAURIUM -- Turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes all packed in a neat container and placed in a bag ready to go.
Pastor Ken Toth was first in line; he picked up some hot meals and hit the road.
It's the way he's spent Thanksgiving morning for years now--volunteering with Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly and delivering a turkey dinner with all the fixings to seniors who otherwise wouldn't have a holiday meal.
"I’m so glad I can do this," says Toth. "It’s a part of ministry outside of the church. We need to minister in the community, and there are so many seniors up here that need this kind of help."
Toth delivered seven meals to five different homes in Laurium and Calumet.
Neither snow nor cold winds slowed him down though he did take time to visit with each person and say a quick prayer.
Gertrude Forester was his final stop, and she was thankful just to be thought of.
"This is a very special surprise to me and I’m enjoying it," says Forester. "My friend Pastor Ken Toth is with me, so it's a doubly nice surprise."
Behind the thousands of meals delivered and served this Thanksgiving were hundreds of volunteers just happy to help out.
Most importantly, everyone enjoyed good food and made new friends, which is what Little Brothers' efforts are all about.
