The group prepares for a big performance
KINGSFORD -- Eighty-seven voices in unison is a powerful experience. And that's exactly what the Dickinson County Community Chorus delivers.
"A lot of people in our community feel like this is the start of our Christmas season in this community,” said Associate Director Crystal Hogan. “This concert welcomes the Christmas season."
The chorus sings both sacred and secular music. They also add elements to incorporate the audience, making it a unique show.
"Well, we have a couple of traditional things that we do,” said Principal Conductor John Calo. “We always end with an Alleluia chorus by Handel, and then we have an audience participation at the end with Silent Night."
And the rest of the program isn't just vocal numbers from the chorus.
“We'll also have a section of solos and ensembles they are chosen by the chorus by audition during the rehearsals prior to this program," Calo said.
Members of the chorus say it's more than just a singing group, it's like a family. Sharing their passion has brought the Dickinson County Community Chorus closer together.
"We've built long-term relationships with each other through this,” Hogan said. “A lot of friendship, a lot of musical groups have formed from us knowing each other. Having the opportunity to do solos and ensembles on this concert brings people together in a more intimate setting and again sharing music."
Sounds of Christmas 2010 will take place at 7 p.m., November 29 and 30 at the Kingsford High School Auditorium.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
